2025 Ford F-250 Super Duty Reviews, Pricing & Specs

The 2025 Ford F-250 Super Duty is massive, measuring two feet longer than a Chevrolet Suburban, and that's with the "short" 6.75-foot bed (an 8-foot bed is also available). It's so large, there's no point in trying to mask its size, so Ford leans into it with styling treatments that exaggerate its mass. The massive grille spans the entire front fascia, enhancing the sense of width and appearing as a giant moving wall in the mirrors of smaller vehicles. In the base trim and a few other models, the grille is blacked out, but our tester was a top Platinum trim level with the optional Platinum Plus package; it's far more extroverted, with chrome elements. The available amber rooftop marker lights add some more utilitarian flavor, and of course, shoppers can take things even further with dual rear wheels (a dually) that are available on the F-350 and F-450.

Our F-250 was further embellished with the Tremor Off-Road package, which raises the truck's ride height, adds off-road running boards, deletes the front air dam for better ground clearance, and mounts 35-inch all-terrain tires on 18-inch wheels. Even with those larger tires, the Super Duty looks as though it's riding on undersized rubber, and while it looks more rugged than the typical truck, the chrome brightwork on the side and tailgate hint at the more luxurious interior and elevated price.

On the inside, the F-250 continues the blocky and industrial look with upright cockpit elements and chunky trim pieces, but in the Platinum trim, they're covered with much nicer materials than most might expect from a truck. Quilted leather adorns the seats and door panels, while a leather topper and elegant micro mesh metallic trim dress up the dashboard.

The materials used are top-notch among pickup trucks, rivaling the luxurious GMC Denali and Ram Limited trims. The leather is sturdy, but it isn't as refined or as supple as what you'd find in a luxury-branded vehicle. Considering the setting and intent for heavy-duty use, it seems perfectly suited, though. The underlying construction also feels appropriately rock-solid. Some creaks could be heard every now and then, but that's expected for any body-on-frame truck.

In this top fancy trim, the F-250 is optimally positioned for wealthy shoppers looking for a strong workhorse to tow their large trailer or boat, and explore the great outdoors in luxury and comfort. It's definitely not for the core heavy-duty truck buyer, but thankfully, they're still covered by supporting trims that are much more affordable and utilitarian.

The 2025 Ford F-250 is available with a choice of four powertrain options, starting with a 6.8-liter V8 gas engine that produces 405 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. A 7.3-liter gasoline V8 engine that makes 430 hp and 485 lb-ft of torque is also available, along with two diesel options for serious towing and hauling. Ford’s Power Stroke 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8 is available in a base spec, 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque, while the high-output Power Stroke option our test vehicle came with produces 500 hp and an impressive 1,200 lb-ft. All F-250s come with a 10-speed automatic transmission and all but the base XL trim come standard with four-wheel drive (4WD).

Towing is one of the main reasons to step up to a heavy-duty truck—and the F-250 leads the class. Properly equipped trucks with the base gasoline V8 can pull up to 17,300 pounds, while the 7.3-liter upgrade increases towing capacity to 18,200 pounds. Diesel engines are rated at a maximum of 22,000 pounds, but that can be increased to 23,000 with a fifth-wheel gooseneck. It's worth noting that a commercial driver's license is required for trucks and trailers that have a combined weight above 26,000 pounds, and the F-250 weighs between 6,500 to 7,000 pounds without a trailer.

The Tremor Off-Road package reduces towing capacity by around 3,000 pounds, but makes up for it with better all-terrain abilities. It adds a locking rear differential, limited-slip front differential, upgraded suspension with a taller ride height, all-terrain tires, underbody skid plates, an air dam delete, off-road running boards, a rock crawl drive mode, and Trail Control, which acts as a low-speed, off-road cruise control. Combined with its solid front axle, this F-250 has serious off-road potential, but it also comes with a few drawbacks.

The ride quality is on the firm and bouncy side, but that's expected of any heavy-duty pickup. That's especially true when the truck is unladen, as some payload or trailer weight helps to smooth things out on the highway. The Tremor package could make those rebounds a bit more noticeable, though. As it is, the ride quality is comfortable enough and less bouncy than its predecessor. And while the Ram 2500's coil spring rear suspension offers better ride quality, it also reduces towing capacity.

As far as power goes, our high-output diesel gets the big truck up to speed with surprising ease. There's no mistaking it for anything but a diesel at full throttle, with plenty of the telltale engine clatter, but in most other conditions, it's as quiet as the gasoline choices. The brakes are easy to operate smoothly and in panic stop situations, the truck remains composed and controllable, though there is a lot of nose dive.

We found steering performance on our test drive to also be typical of a heavy-duty truck, meaning it's vague. The recirculating-ball system is great for towing, hauling, and off-roading, but tends to wander within its lane on a straight highway. It requires constant attention to track faithfully down the center of the lane, though enabling the lane-keep assist helps a little. Our problem was that the system seemed to favor the right side of the lane, forcing us to keep the wheel slightly pulled to the left to counteract this. After an hour of this, our wrist began to feel fatigued.

Handling and maneuverability don't reveal any surprises. While the F-250 may not feel completely out of sorts on a narrow and winding mountain pass, it doesn't instill much confidence with the amount of body roll. Again, this is to be expected of the heavy-duty class, as are the challenges when trying to squeeze into a parking spot.

There's a wealth of space in the front seats, so drivers of any shape and size should easily find their preferred position. The adjustable pedals have a lot of range to accommodate very tall or very short drivers, and there's also plenty of lateral space to stretch out, but not so much as to leave your elbows hanging in midair. The crew cab's rear seats are flatter and more bench-like, offering more than enough legroom, though the panoramic sunroof rails may limit headroom for those taller than six feet.

There's no shortage of personal storage space, though. Up front, you have a large phone tray with a rubberized wireless phone charger and large cupholders with a secondary bin that can also hold larger containers. A cavernous center armrest bin, two gloveboxes, and several well-sized door pockets round out the storage options. Conventional climate controls with buttons and dials make temperature adjustments distraction-free when compared to having them integrated into the infotainment touchscreen.

In any seat, there are plenty of ports to keep your devices charged, as well as household-style power outlets. There's also Ford's Pro Power Onboard system that turns the F-250 into a mobile generator. Not only does it keep the interior outlets powered, but it also sends power to additional outlets in the bed. With 2 kW of maximum system power, you should be able to use a wide array of power tools on job sites, or bring the comfort of home to the great outdoors.

Accessing the bed is made easy and civilized with an available power tailgate that gently opens and closes with the touch of a button. An integrated step that slides out and down in an instant and, combined with the deployable assist handle, makes getting in and out of the bed significantly easier. We're also fans of the retractable hard tonneau cover (available with both bed lengths), which protects your cargo from the elements or theft. It rolls with very little effort, but the enclosure at the front of the bed does eat up some precious space.

In more conventional builds, the running-board side steps help passengers to get in and out of the F-250. WIth the Tremor Off-Road package, however, those running boards are raised by a considerable amount in order to improve ground clearance. This results in a sizable step up to gain access to the cabin that also requires use of the interior grab handles.

As brawny and utilitarian as the F-250 is, it also packs a surprising amount of technology. In regard to its all-important towing abilities, there's the available Pro Trailer Backup Assist system, which eliminates the stress of backing a trailer into a tight parking spot by using a dash-mounted dial to steer with precision while the computer system figures out how to make it happen. There's also a standard integrated trailer brake controller, which is a necessity when pulling large trailers.

Helping matters are tire-pressure monitors for the trailer as well as additional camera views that greatly reduce the guesswork when changing lanes, parking, or off-roading. Ford's Onboard Scales is another helpful feature that will display how much weight is being loaded into the bed or attached the hitch. It's not accurate enough for commercial use, but it will certainly give you a better idea of how close you are to the truck's limits.

On the inside, our Platinum-trim F-250 comes standard with a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12-inch digital instrument panel. Lower trim levels start you off with analog gauges and an 8-inch touchscreen. With the screen higher on the dash, it's easier and less distracting to operate. Quick responses and logical menus help, though some of the more specialized features listed above take a little digging to find.

Also included on our test vehicle is a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium audio system that delivers potent bass, though the treble registers tend to distort at higher volumes. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard and wireless throughout the lineup, though the wireless charging pad isn't included until you step up to the higher trim levels.

Crash tests are not required for heavy-duty pickup trucks, and as such, there are no results available from either the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The sheer size and weight bode well for the F-250 in vehicle-to-vehicle collisions, but the elevated ride height makes it more prone to rollovers.

Standard trailer sway damping helps to keep your trailer stable and tracking straight on the highway and in crosswinds, but other than that, and the aforementioned trailer brake controller, other safety features are limited to the option list and higher trim levels. Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking is standard on the XLT trim, while the Lariat adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking proximity sensors with automatic braking, a surround-view camera system, and rain-sensing wipers. Adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and a head-up display are standard on the posh King Ranch trim and above.

As noted earlier, the lane-keep assist doesn't keep the huge F-250 centered in its lane, but it does keep it from leaving it. The adaptive cruise control, on the other hand, functioned flawlessly with smooth acceleration and braking while it maintained a consistent gap to the cars in front. Unfortunately, Ford's praiseworthy Blue Cruise hands-free highway driving system is not offered on Super Duty trucks.

The 2025 Ford F-250 has a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $51,385 (including $2,095 in destination fees). Our range-topping Platinum trim starts much higher, at $80,160, and with options that include the high-output diesel ($12,995), Platinum Plus package ($6,500), Tremor Off-Road package ($4,375), and tonneau cover ($23,200), the price skyrockets to $108,770.

These prices are comparable to similarly-equipped rivals such as the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, GMC Sierra 2500 HD, and Ram 2500. Heavy duty trucks are also exempt from reporting fuel economy estimates, but it should be obvious by now that they're not great. We averaged around 15 mpg in a mix of street and highway miles, but that's without any weight in the bed and without towing anything.

With regard to towing, the F-250 not only rises above the crowd for its specs, but also for its smart tech features. It can be argued that the Ram 2500 has a more luxurious cabin and a more comfortable ride quality, if you splurge for a high-end version, but it comes up 3,000 pounds short in maximum towing capacity. That objectively puts the Ford F-250 in the lead, so if you're looking to pull extraordinary weight, that's our pick in the class. If you don't need such high capabilities, you'd definitely be better served by the light-duty Ford F-150 which is easier to drive, more affordable, and more efficient.
