What’s New for the 2024 Volvo XC40 Recharge
The 2024 model year sees the introduction of a standard rear-wheel-drive (RWD) powertrain and an improved driving range of up to 293 miles.
Design
The XC40 Recharge has a similar profile to the conventionally-powered XC40, though with the lack of a conventional powertrain, there’s no need for a radiator. As such, the Recharge has a clean front-end design. Available trims include Core, Plus, and Ultimate. The Core trim comes standard with 19-inch alloy wheels. The Plus trim adds fog lights and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Powertrain
New for 2024, the standard single-motor rear-wheel-drive powertrain produces 248 horsepower and comes with an 82-kilowatt-hour battery pack that affords up to 293 miles of range at 106 MPGe (miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent) combined.
An upgraded dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) version is also available. It’s rated at 402 hp and comes equipped with a 78-kWh battery providing a driving range of 254 miles at 98 MPGe combined.
With Level 2 AC charging, the battery can be replenished overnight. DC fast charging can replenish the battery from 10 percent to 80 percent in about 28 minutes for the single-motor variant and 37 minutes for the dual-motor variant.

Interior
Standard features on the base XC40 Recharge Core trim include dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and combination cloth and synthetic leather upholstery. Stepping up to the Plus trim adds a panoramic sunroof and a power-adjustable front passenger seat.
The XC40 Recharge offers 16 cubic feet behind the rear seats and expands to 57.5 cubic feet with the seats folded down. Additionally, there is a small front storage area suitable for smaller items, like a charging cable. The XC40 comes standard with a power liftgate.
Technology
Standard tech features in Core trim include a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster. The Core and Plus trims come with an eight-speaker stereo system, and the Ultimate comes with an upgraded 13-speaker Harman Kardon premium stereo system.
