The Chevy Camaro left the scene in 2024, and that was the closest competitor to the 2025 Ford Mustang in the two-door, four-seat sports car category. You could say it also competes with the Toyota Supra, the Toyota 86, the Nissan Z, and the Subaru BRZ, but none of those quite hit the same mark. The Mustang has been around since 1964 and entered its seventh generation in 2024. For 2025 it has six trims: EcoBoost Fastback, EcoBoost Premium Fastback, GT Fastback, GT Premium Fastback, Dark Horse, and Dark Horse Premium.

What’s New for the 2025 Ford Mustang
Since the Ford Mustang was all-new for 2024, the 2025 model year is essentially a carryover but there are a couple big new things of note. First, the Mustang is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a limited edition package in a nod to its first full model year in 1965. Key features of this 60th Anniversary Package, available on the GT Premium trim, include special badging, unique 20-inch wheels, red stamped aluminum center wheel caps, a special mesh grille, and a serialized 60th Anniversary instrument panel badge. Ford has also announced a $300,000 Mustang GTD, which will deliver 815 horsepower, making it the most powerful Mustang ever.
Design
The 2025 Ford Mustang does a fine job of incorporating retro styling cues with modern features, such as LED headlights and taillights. In addition to the hood stripe and side stripe options, the Mustang offers a Nite Pony Package with blacked out exterior accents including wheels, mirror caps, and badging. The GT trims offer a Performance Package with 19-inch wheels, a front tow hook, and a black grille in addition to special performance tuning. While 18-inch wheels are standard, 19-inch wheels are available with the GT trim and standard with the Dark Horse.
Powertrain
The 2025 Ford Mustang is rear-wheel drive and the base powertrain is a 315hp 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-four. This powertrain is only available with the 10-speed automatic transmission. GT models get the 5.0-liter V8 that delivers 480hp, while the Dark Horse, with the same engine, is tuned to deliver 500 hp. The base transmission with the V8 is a six-speed manual, and the 10-speed automatic is optional. The Mustang GTD gets the supercharged 5.2-liter V8 and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The base powertrain is the most fuel efficient with 26 mpg in combined driving. The GT delivers 18 or 19 mpg in combined driving depending on the transmission, while the Dark Horse gets 17 mpg in combined driving. As you'd expect, the GTD is the least efficient with 12 mpg.
Interior
Technically, the 2025 Ford Mustang seats four people, but with minimal legroom, the rear seat is more of a cargo shelf. The base Fastback model comes standard with cloth seats, but leatherette and leather seats are available. Recaro sport seats are available with GT Premium and Dark Horse trims. Trunk space is limited, with 13.3 cubic feet of cargo volume, and the hardtop Mustang does not have a sunroof option.
Technology
All 2025 Ford Mustangs come standard with the manufacturer's Sync 4 infotainment system, which includes a 13.2-inch screen as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also standard are the six drive modes: normal, sport, slippery, track, drag strip, and custom. Available track apps include a lap timer, an acceleration timer, brake performance, and drift brake. Manual-transmission models have rev matching, launch control, and a performance shift indicator. The standard audio audio is a six-speaker system, but a 12-speaker B&O audio system is available.
