What’s New for the 2025 Toyota GR86
For 2025, Toyota improves the GR86’s driving dynamics, not by adding more power, but with retuned steering and suspension, as well as retuned throttle response for quicker shifts and launches. Also for 2025, the Hakone Edition limited trim returns, with exclusive exterior and interior color palettes, wheels, and badging.
Design
The Toyota GR86 has a small, taut coupe body that hides a 2+2 seating arrangement. It has a low, athletic stance but is otherwise on the modest side in terms of exterior design. The GR86 wears standard 17-inch wheels and is available with 18-inch wheels. The Hakone Edition gets exclusive 18-inch satin bronze wheels that complement its Ridge Green exterior with matching spoiler, black accents, and exclusive badging.
Powertrain
Toyota keeps things simple in the GR86 with just one powertrain, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder boxer engine that makes 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) and a six-speed manual transmission come standard, while a six-speed automatic is available.
For 2025, Toyota updated throttle response for quicker launches and shifting, and the suspension features retuned shocks and electric power steering for more responsive handling.
With the automatic transmission, the GR 86 has EPA ratings of 21 mpg city, 30 highway, and 24 combined, while manual models are rated for 20/26/22 mpg.
Interior
Though the GR86 technically seats four, the second row is best used for extra storage, particularly since the trunk holds just 6.2 cubic feet of cargo. The GR86 comes standard with manually-adjustable front seats, cloth upholstery, and a leather steering wheel. You can upgrade to heated front seats and a combination of synthetic suede and leather upholstery. The Hakone Edition features exclusive black synthetic suede and tan leather upholstery, a bronze-accented shift knob, and a special edition badge.
Technology
With a snug cabin and not much dashboard space, the GR86 is a purist’s delight in terms of tech. The GR86 comes standard with a 7-inch digital instrument display, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a pair of USB ports, a six-speaker stereo system, and keyless entry. Options include an upgraded stereo with eight speakers.
