Audi was founded in 1909. In 1965, Volkswagen took a 50% stake in Auto Union, which produced Audi vehicles at that time. It acquired this stake in the company from Daimler-Benz. Through the decades, the VW control of Audi grew, owning 99.64% by 2019. In 2020, VW acquired the remaining shares, making Audi a wholly-owned subsidiary.
