The 2021 Lexus NX Hybrid presented a blend of sharp edges and a streamlined profile, maintaining a familiar yet distinct look within the Lexus family. Despite its sporty F Sport Black Line enhancements, the NX's design had not evolved significantly over the years, making it both recognizable and somewhat dated. The interior, while initially radical, had become familiar due to its lack of updates, featuring a stepped center console and a mix of materials that leaned more towards mainstream than luxury.

In contrast, the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover underwent an evolutionary redesign, retaining its broad, rounded face and emphasizing its substantial presence. The most notable change was at the rear, with sleek LED taillights integrated into darker trim. Inside, the Range Rover offered a simplified yet luxurious cabin with fewer buttons and a modern touchscreen, complemented by high-quality materials and a solid, premium feel.

The 2021 Lexus NX Hybrid featured a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor, producing a total of 194 horsepower. It offered standard all-wheel drive but was not a performance vehicle, with a 0-60 mph time of 9.1 seconds and a top speed of 112 mph. The hybrid system prioritized fuel efficiency over excitement, and while the sport-tuned suspension improved handling, the steering felt numb and unresponsive.

The 2022 Range Rover offered two powertrains: a base P400 with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and a P530 with a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8. The P400 delivered 395 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of 5.8 seconds, providing smooth and effortless acceleration. Despite its size, the Range Rover handled well, with rear-wheel steering aiding maneuverability. It maintained a calm and composed ride, excelling in both on-road comfort and off-road capability.

The Lexus NX Hybrid struggled with interior space, offering the least front headroom and rear legroom in its segment. The front seats were comfortable, but rear visibility was compromised by thick pillars. Cargo space was limited, with 16.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 53.7 cubic feet with them folded. Some features like a power liftgate were not standard.

The Range Rover excelled in spaciousness, with ample room in the first two rows and excellent visibility. Front seats offered massage functions, and the second row provided power adjustments and climate controls. The optional third row was less accommodating for adults but suitable for children. Cargo capacity ranged from 17.1 cubic feet behind the third row to 93 cubic feet with seats folded, aided by a split tailgate and adjustable air suspension.

The Lexus NX Hybrid's infotainment system was a weak point, featuring an 8-inch display with a cumbersome Remote Touch Interface touchpad. While it supported Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the system felt outdated, with poor graphics and a challenging user experience. The base audio system was underwhelming, lacking the quality expected from a luxury brand.

The Range Rover boasted a 13-inch touchscreen with the new Pivi Pro system, offering sharp graphics and quick responses. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, and the Meridian audio system provided excellent sound quality. The cabin featured advanced tech options like Amazon Alexa integration and remote parking, enhancing the luxury experience.

The 2021 Lexus NX Hybrid earned a “Top Safety Pick+” from the IIHS and a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA. It came with the Lexus Safety System+ 2.0, including a comprehensive suite of driver aids. However, it lacked a 360-degree camera system, which was common among competitors.

The 2022 Range Rover had not been rated by the NHTSA or IIHS, but it included standard safety features like collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and a surround-view camera system. While adequately equipped, it missed some advanced features found in rival luxury SUVs.
