2024 Genesis GV80 Reviews Summary

Genesis introduced the GV80 in 2021, and the crossover SUV is getting a minor refresh in 2025. Still, the 2024 GV80 remains a good choice unless you want to wait for the fancier styling, more high-tech interior, or new supercharged GV80 Coupe coming next year. Otherwise, today’s GV80 is pretty much the same as tomorrow’s GV80, and in some respects, it is the more elegant and traditional choice.

Verdict: Based on our evaluation of the 2024 Genesis GV80, seat comfort is not what it should be. Also, to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, you need a USB cable. This Genesis is thirsty, too. But otherwise, we have few complaints about this stylish, safe, and mostly rewarding midsize luxury SUV.

2025 Lexus RX Hybrid Reviews Summary

In 2024, the Lexus RX was the best-selling traditional luxury model in America. But is the midsize, two-row SUV’s popularity justifiable? Or does the RX sell on the strength of the Lexus brand and the model’s legendary reputation for reliability, a plush ride, and a quiet interior? The changes to the 2025 RX don’t help answer that question, unless you're looking for sportier choices, such as the new Black Line Special Edition shown here.

Verdict: Though it lacks substantial competition in the luxury hybrid SUV segment, the 2025 Lexus RX Hybrid is worthy of consideration. With hybrid, performance hybrid, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain choices, as well as a range of trim levels that cater to a variety of customer requirements, it checks a lot of boxes.

2024 Genesis GV80

9/10

2025 Lexus RX Hybrid

6/10

The 2024 Genesis GV80 offered a choice between the 2.5T and 3.5T models, with trim levels ranging from Standard to Prestige Signature. Prices varied from $57,700 to $81,750, plus a $1,350 destination charge. The test vehicle, a GV80 3.5T in Prestige Signature trim, featured a Matterhorn White Matte paint job, bringing the MSRP to $84,600. Prestige Signature models came in exclusive colors like Vik Black and Mauna Red, with dark chrome trim and 22-inch wheels. The interior boasted Ultramarine Blue over Dune with diamond-stitched Nappa leather, a suede headliner, and a wide touchscreen display, exuding luxury. Despite its opulence, the recommendation leaned towards the regular Prestige trim for better value.

The 2025 Lexus RX Hybrid, particularly the RX 500h Black Line Special Edition, was priced at $75,000. It featured an Incognito paint job with orange brake calipers, but its appearance was considered unremarkable. The RX lineup included the RX 350h, RX 500h, and RX 450h+ models, each with varying power and efficiency. The RX 500h, with 366 hp, was the most powerful but less fuel-efficient. The interior offered quality materials and ambient lighting, though some controls were confusing. The RX Hybrid focused on comfort and practicality, with ample rear seat space and a panoramic sunroof.

The 2024 Genesis GV80 2.5T featured a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine with 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque, outperforming some rivals' V6 engines. The 3.5T model, tested with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6, delivered 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. It offered a satisfying driving experience but was thirsty, achieving 17.2 mpg compared to the EPA's 20 mpg estimate. Both engines paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and AWD, with five driving modes available. The GV80 excelled in road handling, with commendable grip and upgraded brakes, though the steering was unremarkable.

The 2025 Lexus RX Hybrid's RX 350h model provided 246 hp and 233 lb-ft of torque, prioritizing efficiency. The RX 450h+ PHEV offered 304 hp and a 6.2-second 0-60 mph time. The RX 500h, with a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine, produced 366 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, achieving quick acceleration but lower fuel economy. It featured a sport-tuned suspension, 21-inch wheels, and Direct4 AWD. Despite its power, the RX 500h's drivetrain hesitated at times, and its adaptive suspension felt unnatural. The RX 500h excelled in straight-line speed but lacked dynamic communication.

In 2024, the Genesis GV80 3.5T Advanced was the only model with a third-row seat. The Prestige Signature trim seated four with luxurious captain’s chairs. Despite its opulence, the GV80's seats were uncomfortable on long trips. The interior featured premium materials, a panoramic roof, and triple-zone climate control. Cargo space measured 34.9 cubic feet, expanding to 84 cubic feet with seats folded, though the rear console limited loading ease.

The 2025 Lexus RX Hybrid focused on comfort and practicality. The RX 500h F Sport Performance had snug front seats with enhanced bolstering, but the bottom cushions were uncomfortable on long drives. The rear seats offered ample space and comfort, with a panoramic sunroof overhead. Interior storage was practical, though the rear armrest lacked lining. Cargo space was 29.6 cubic feet, expanding to 46.2 cubic feet with seats folded, though the cargo cover hindered loading.

The 2024 Genesis GV80 featured a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment display, with a control dial for ease of use. It included navigation, SiriusXM, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A digital key system and Lexicon premium sound system were standard, with a head-up display in higher trims. The infotainment system was intuitive, with a pleasing display and effective voice recognition.

The 2025 Lexus RX Hybrid offered a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 14-inch touchscreen display. The Lexus Interface system included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, and cloud-based navigation. The RX 500h featured a Mark Levinson audio system, though steering wheel controls were distracting. The infotainment system worked well, despite occasional glitches with satellite radio display.

The 2025 Lexus RX Hybrid included Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, with features like forward collision warning, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. The RX earned a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA, but the IIHS rated it poorly in frontal-impact tests.
