CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Toyota Venza
overall

Summary
With 224 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,657, 27.2% of 2014 Toyota Venzas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Toyota Venza 4.6 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.17 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2014 Toyota Venza stands out for bringing more style and flair than most of Toyota’s other vehicles, which gives this crossover a more distinctive look than many buyers might expect. It is also described as roomy, comfortable, safe, and stylish, making it an appealing choice for shoppers who want a practical vehicle without giving up a more polished personality.
That appeal comes with a few tradeoffs. The 2014 Toyota Venza lacks modern safety technologies, and its cabin is described as inexpensively trimmed. Even so, the overall impression is that it represents money well spent, especially for buyers who value comfort and space. The available V6 engine is singled out as the upgrade to choose, suggesting that it is the version most likely to satisfy drivers who want the Venza at its best.

Would buy again. - Our Venza was purchased on first sight. Our family unanimously loved the styling and practical, comfortable dimensions.(and rich color) It is the vehicle of choice for long trips or carrying bulky items. Toyota quality is evident in fit, finish, operation, dealer service, actually everything. This is our second Venza, our first, an '09 had a problem with the AWD which was resolved, although it made odd noises after the repair that reapperared periodically. Acceleration is brisk with the V6, but the 4 is adequate. The mileage is close, so we picked the reserve power the V6 provides. The 4 requires synthetic oil be warned. Handling is secure for a bulky vehicle, with very short stops with the 4 antilock disc brakes and low profile tires. The 20" alloy wheels give the Venza an aggressive look we like, just watch those curbs or the wheels will rash easily. The cabin is quiet and chock full of conveniences like dual climate control, auto dimming xenon headlamps, navigation with rear camera, bluetooth cell linking, heated seats, a huge console, and remote power tailgate. New for the limited, electrically folding mirrors and auto seat and steering make entry and exits easier. With all the safety features, great crash rating, airbags front and side, dual sunroofs, more legroom in back than front, reclining rear seats, this is a very passenger friendly vehicle. Now that the bugs have been worked out, we can recommend the Venza, and would purchase it again.

The earlier design of the Toyota Venza is a roomy, elegant vehicle. The Limited version has everything that you could want in your car. This is a sturdy, recognizable crossover that has loads of room for your luggage and drives quietly for long trips. Highly recommend it!

Has all the bells and whistles of top-of-the-line vehicles, plus Toyota ‘s legendary reputation to let you know it’s a quality performer. Smooth, graceful lines similar to the Lexus RX 350.

Is the 2014 Toyota Venza a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Toyota Venza earns a 4.6/5 user rating, and our experts rate it 6.17/10 overall. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.
Drivers consistently praise its reliability, spaciousness, comfortable ride, and stylish design. The overview also points to a roomy, comfortable crossover that works well for long trips and everyday hauling, which fits the Venza’s practical family-vehicle mission.
You should also keep in mind that the cabin is described as inexpensively trimmed, so the appeal is more about comfort, space, and value than luxury polish. Even so, 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2014 Toyota Venza reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback highlights reliability, and the review summary also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience with strong confidence for long-term use.
The expert review reinforces that view by calling the Venza reliable and noting that it earns the best possible rating for dependability from J.D. Power. Toyota also includes free maintenance and roadside assistance for the first two years or 25,000 miles of ownership, which helps reduce early ownership friction.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about finding a well-kept example that hasn’t been neglected or damaged.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Venza?
At 54.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, wheel and tire condition, and signs of prior repair quality, since the market includes a sizable number of cars with accident histories.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LE is the standard trim, while the XLE adds leather, Smart Key passive entry, navigation with advanced voice-recognition technology, Entune App Suite services, HD Radio, iTunes song-tagging capability, a reversing camera, a power tailgate, heated front seats, a 4-way power front passenger’s seat, and memory for the driver’s seat and mirror settings. The Limited adds a panoramic glass sunroof, a hard-drive navigation system with a larger 7-inch high-resolution infotainment touchscreen, a premium JBL audio system, front and rear parking-assist sensors, automatic HID headlights with automatic high-beam operation, LED running lights, larger 20-inch aluminum wheels, and a standard V6 engine.
- Powertrain: The standard engine is a 181-hp, 2.7-liter 4-cylinder, and a more powerful 268-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 is available in LE and XLE trims and standard on Limited. Any version can be optioned with all-wheel drive, and the V6 brings a meaningful power boost with only a small fuel-economy penalty.
- Safety package: The Venza comes standard with a driver’s knee airbag and blind-spot side-mirror designs. A reversing camera is optional on the LE and standard on the XLE and Limited, while the Limited also offers front and rear parking-assist sensors. The vehicle does not include blind-spot information, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, or Safety Connect.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen. The XLE adds navigation and Entune App Suite services, while the Limited upgrades to a larger 7-inch high-resolution infotainment touchscreen. Wireless smartphone integration and OTA capability are not mentioned.
- Fuel efficiency: The 4-cylinder returned 25.7 mpg on a 700-mile trip and is rated at 26 mpg on the highway. The V6 is also rated at 26 mpg on the highway, which makes the stronger engine easier to justify than you might expect.
Which 2014 Toyota Venza trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Venza is offered in 3 trim levels: LE, XLE, Limited.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point, and it makes the most sense if you want the Venza’s core space, comfort, and style at the lowest price. It is the trim to choose if you plan to keep things simple and add only the options you truly need.
- XLE: This is the best-value trim because it adds the most useful everyday upgrades, including leather, Smart Key, navigation, Entune App Suite, a reversing camera, heated front seats, and memory settings. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to target.
- Limited: This is the fully loaded choice, with the panoramic sunroof, larger 7-inch touchscreen, JBL audio, parking-assist sensors, and standard V6 engine. Choose it if you want the most upscale Venza and are willing to pay for it.
The Limited trim also includes the standard V6 engine, while the reversing camera is optional on LE and standard on XLE and Limited.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Venza?
This is a seller’s market, so you should act selectively and be ready to move when a strong listing appears.
- Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 219 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.34% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 54.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,650, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Toyota Venza's resale value?
The current average of $12,540 sits slightly above last year's $12,252.
That upward move suggests the Venza has held demand reasonably well, even as the model ages. For a future seller, that means pricing power is still present if your vehicle is clean, well maintained, and accident-free.
The market also appears to reward value-oriented crossovers with strong reputation and practical appeal. If your Venza has a solid history and good condition, you should be able to attract buyers without having to discount heavily.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Toyota Venza safe?
The 2014 Venza earns five-star ratings from NHTSA and a Good rating from IIHS. It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
The Venza comes standard with a driver’s knee airbag and blind-spot side-mirror designs. A reversing camera is optional on the LE and standard on the XLE and Limited, and the Limited also offers front and rear parking-assist sensors.
The main caveat is that the Venza lacks modern crash-prevention technology such as blind-spot information, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and Safety Connect. IIHS also has not evaluated small-overlap frontal-impact crash protection for this vehicle.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Venza or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.34% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert review says to upgrade to the optional V6 engine.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $13,259, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $12,540 average.
- It adds a final-year value story before discontinuation.
The bottom line: If you want the better price today, the 2014 is the smarter buy, especially if you can find a clean XLE or a well-priced V6 model. If you’re willing to spend more for a later-year example, the 2015 is the secondary path, but the 2014 already delivers the core Venza strengths at a lower average cost.
