CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid
overall

Summary
With 196 currently listed for sale and an average price of $36,073.00, 30.1% of 2022 Lexus ES Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
79.1% of 2022 ES Hybrid models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid stands out as a luxury sedan that leans into quiet comfort rather than performance, and that formula still seems to have an audience. For this year, Lexus gives the ES a refresh with new grille, wheel, and bi-LED headlight designs, plus a couple of new paint colors. It also adds a touchscreen infotainment display and next-generation Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 driving assistance and collision avoidance technology, which helps make the car feel more current and easier to live with.
What makes the 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid especially distinctive is that it finally gets F Sport trim, though the change is described as cosmetic rather than mechanical. That fits the car’s broader character: it is fuel-efficient, spacious, and equipped with easy-to-use technology, but it is also fairly pedestrian in performance and can come across as uninspired in styling. For buyers who want a comfortable, efficient luxury sedan without chasing sporty dynamics, that balance may be exactly the appeal.

I love the car as I presently own an ES 350 , but won't be buying from this dealer due to their exorbitant dealer fees and unscrupulous add-ons. Their reviews are very negative and don't inspire trust or confidence.

I love the gas mileage, 43mpg city/hwy. That sells me right there. I was somewhat worried about the level of power it would have. I was surprised at the get up and go that this 4cyl has. Im a fast driver, get up and go kind of driver. This car has enough power for me.

Well designed car. Great gas mileage. Smooth ride. Every possible feature one can think of. Heads up display is really a bonus. Compare this car to any Mercedes sold.

Is the 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid a good car?
Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid leans into quiet comfort, spaciousness, and easy-to-use technology rather than sporty driving, which fits buyers who want a relaxed luxury sedan for daily use. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.
The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, and the styling can feel uninspired. Even with the F Sport trim, the car is described as more of an appearance package than a meaningful performance upgrade.
With 31.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively if comfort and efficiency matter more to you than driving excitement.
Is the 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid is built around a quiet, comfort-first formula, and the hybrid setup is described as efficient and easy to live with. Its powertrain is presented as a 2.5-liter four-cylinder paired with an electric drive assist motor and lithium-ion battery pack, and the car is praised for returning fantastic fuel economy.
The new touchscreen infotainment system also makes the cabin easier to use, which matters over years of ownership. Lexus also adds new safety and driver-assistance technology for this model year, reinforcing the sense that the car is designed to be straightforward and low-stress to own.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability than about whether the specific car has been maintained well and whether its comfort-focused hardware has aged cleanly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still prioritize a history report and a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with cosmetic wear. Focus on cabin condition, infotainment operation, and how smoothly the hybrid powertrain and braking feel in normal driving. Because this model emphasizes comfort and technology, small issues in those areas can matter more than they would on a more basic sedan.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The ES Hybrid comes in Base, Luxury, Ultra Luxury, and new-for-2022 F Sport trim. The base version is the most straightforward choice, while the F Sport adds a racier look with black 19-inch wheels and interior styling changes, but it does not add the sport-tuned suspension you might expect.
- Powertrain: The hybrid setup combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, an electric drive assist motor, and a lithium-ion battery pack for 215 horsepower. It is front-wheel drive, and the transmission is a CVT.
- Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-centering assistance, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, evasive steering assistance, Intersection Turning Assist, and Curve Speed Reduction.
- Infotainment: The touchscreen infotainment display is 4.3 inches closer to the driver and front passenger for easier use. It includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa integration.
- Fuel efficiency: The car is described as fuel-efficient, and testing returned 37 mpg on the route described in the source material.
Which 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Luxury, Ultra Luxury, and F Sport.
Here's the short version:
- Base: This is the trim to start with if you want the ES Hybrid’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. You still get the quiet, comfortable, spacious character, plus the standard hybrid powertrain and the full safety suite.
- Luxury: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more upscale comfort and convenience while staying true to the ES Hybrid’s relaxed mission.
- Ultra Luxury: Choose this if you want the most comfort-focused version and plan to prioritize a more premium-feeling cabin over sporty styling.
- F Sport: Pick this only if you want the appearance changes, black wheels, and sportier visual treatment. It is not the right choice if you are expecting a meaningful performance upgrade.
Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up trims to get the core driver-assistance package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep discounts everywhere.
- Deal availability: 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 229 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.66% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 77.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $32,871.28, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $36,260 sits slightly above last year's $34,979.
That upward move suggests the market has held up reasonably well for this model year. If you buy well and keep the car in good condition, you may benefit from that steady demand when it is time to sell. The ES Hybrid’s comfort-first reputation and strong efficiency help it appeal to shoppers looking for a practical luxury sedan rather than a performance car.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid safe?
The 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star crash protection from NHTSA.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-centering assistance, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, evasive steering assistance, Intersection Turning Assist, and Curve Speed Reduction.
The main caveat is that the lane-centering and Curve Speed Reduction systems can feel overly intrusive or reactive in some driving situations, so you may prefer to adjust or disable them depending on the road.
Should I buy a 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.66% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- This year adds a touchscreen infotainment display and next-generation Lexus Safety System+ 2.5, which make the car easier to live with.
The bottom line: If you want the most current version of the ES Hybrid’s comfort, tech, and safety package, the 2022 is the one to target. If your priority is saving money, a nearby older model year may be worth a look, but you give up some of the refresh benefits that make this one feel more modern.
