CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid
overall

Summary
With 227 currently listed for sale and an average price of $36,285, 30.8% of 2022 Lexus ES Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
78.4% of 2022 ES Hybrid models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid stands out as a luxury sedan that leans into quiet comfort rather than performance, and it continues to appeal in a market where cars are losing favor. For this year, Lexus gives the ES a nip and tuck with new grille, wheel, and bi-LED headlight designs, plus a couple of new paint colors. It also adds a touchscreen infotainment display and next-generation Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 driving assistance and collision avoidance technology, which helps make the car feel more modern and easier to live with.
The 2022 model is also the first ES Hybrid offered with F Sport trim, although the update is described as cosmetic rather than a change in driving character. That fits the car’s broader personality: it is fuel-efficient, easy to use, and spacious, but its performance is fairly pedestrian and its styling is uninspired. For buyers who want a comfortable, efficient luxury sedan with useful tech and a roomy cabin, the 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid makes a strong case.

I love the car as I presently own an ES 350 , but won't be buying from this dealer due to their exorbitant dealer fees and unscrupulous add-ons. Their reviews are very negative and don't inspire trust or confidence.

I love the gas mileage, 43mpg city/hwy. That sells me right there. I was somewhat worried about the level of power it would have. I was surprised at the get up and go that this 4cyl has. Im a fast driver, get up and go kind of driver. This car has enough power for me.

Well designed car. Great gas mileage. Smooth ride. Every possible feature one can think of. Heads up display is really a bonus. Compare this car to any Mercedes sold.

Lexus also adds a touchscreen infotainment system and upgraded safety tech for 2022, which should help the car feel easier to use over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the car’s tech and driver-assistance features still feel smooth and trustworthy as mileage builds.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 79% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the vehicle history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a lot of tech features. Focus on overall condition, since this car’s appeal depends heavily on comfort, cabin quality, and how well the infotainment and driver-assistance systems work in daily use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The ES 300h comes in Base, Luxury, Ultra Luxury, and new-for-2022 F Sport trim. The base setup is the most straightforward, while the F Sport adds black 19-inch wheels, a white-over-black interior treatment, and heated and ventilated front cushions, but it is still described as an appearance-focused version rather than a more athletic one.
- Powertrain: The hybrid system uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, an electric drive assist motor, and a lithium-ion battery pack for 215 horsepower. It is front-wheel drive, uses a CVT, and is tuned for smooth, efficient driving rather than excitement.
- Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-centering assistance, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, evasive steering assistance, Intersection Turning Assist, and Curve Speed Reduction.
- Infotainment: The 2022 model adds a touchscreen infotainment display mounted 4.3 inches closer to the driver and front passenger. It includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa integration, and voice recognition that is described as fast and accurate.
- Fuel efficiency: The ES Hybrid is described as returning fantastic fuel economy, and the test route returned 37 mpg.
Which 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Luxury, Ultra Luxury, and F Sport.
Here's the short version:
- Base: This is the trim to start with if you want the ES Hybrid’s core strengths: quiet comfort, strong efficiency, roomy space, and the new touchscreen and safety tech without paying for extras you may not need.
- Luxury: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and expect to spend more time appreciating the cabin and convenience features than chasing performance.
- Ultra Luxury: This is the right pick if you want the most comfort-oriented version and value a more premium experience over price.
- F Sport: Pick this only if you want the sportier look, black 19-inch wheels, and the white-over-black interior treatment; it is the best fit for buyers who care most about appearance. It is not the best-value choice if you want a meaningful change in driving character.
Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim for the core safety suite.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop with a clear target and be ready to move when you find the right listing.
- Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 224 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.51% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 79.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $32,873, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $36,193 sits slightly above last year's $34,964.
That upward move suggests the market has been willing to pay more for this model year, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. The ES Hybrid’s mix of efficiency, comfort, and updated tech should help it stay relevant with used buyers who want a practical luxury sedan.
Because prices are already trending higher, a clean, well-kept example should be easier to position competitively when it’s time to resell. Strong demand for efficient luxury sedans can also help support value retention.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid safe?
The 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid provides five-star crash protection.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-centering assistance, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, evasive steering assistance, Intersection Turning Assist, and Curve Speed Reduction.
The system’s lane-centering and Curve Speed Reduction behavior can feel intrusive or reactive in some situations, so you may prefer to turn those features off on certain drives.
Should I buy a 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 79% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.51% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 update adds a touchscreen infotainment display and Lexus Safety System+ 2.5, making it the more modern and easier-to-live-with choice.
The bottom line: If you want the most up-to-date version of the ES Hybrid’s comfort, tech, and safety package, the 2022 is the one to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may make sense, but you’ll want to compare carefully because the 2022 brings meaningful usability upgrades that improve daily life.
