Why it stands out
The 2023 Ford Bronco stands out as one of the most capable off-road vehicles you can buy, while still feeling at home on the highway. It offers a choice of two or four doors across nine distinct models, giving shoppers a wide range of body styles and configurations to fit different needs. Its rugged, stylish design is a big part of the appeal, helping it feel both tough and fashionable.
That combination of personality and capability is what makes the 2023 Bronco especially distinctive. It is built for drivers who want serious trail performance without giving up everyday usability. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: advanced safety features are not standard, and fuel economy is below average.

Good value but no hard top available for a year or more so I can’t put a roof rack on for my kayak or roof box etc. Didn’t like how the back window can’t open if putting larger things in the trunk. Not practical for my current needs.

How much does the 2023 Ford Bronco cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $41,852 |
| Year-Round Low | $41,863.92 |
| Year-Round High | $45,847.29 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $45,852 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.72% |
Prices have softened 8.72% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 4,972 listings available, you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare across trims and conditions.
If you find a listing below $41,863.92, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 Ford Bronco a good car?
Generally — the 2023 Ford Bronco earns a 4.27/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Form and function.
Owners consistently praise its off-road capability, comfort, and features, and many also like the rugged design and driving experience. The trade-offs are familiar: pricing can feel high, fuel efficiency is a concern, and cargo practicality is not its strongest suit.
That lines up with the Bronco’s use case as a vehicle that can handle daily driving while still being built for serious trail work. It remains a strong fit if you want versatility with a rugged personality.
With 32.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Ford Bronco reliable?
Owners rate it 4.27/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in the ways that matter most to Bronco shoppers: it delivers the kind of capability and comfort people expect, and many owners seem happy to keep living with it over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Bronco is built to handle demanding use without losing its composure on pavement.
The Bronco’s durability-focused design and off-road hardware suggest it is meant for long-term use, but used buyers should still pay close attention to how hard a specific example has been driven.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Bronco?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the Bronco has seen trail use or heavy modification. Focus on wear items that can reveal how the vehicle was used, including tires, suspension components, underbody condition, and interior surfaces.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Base trim has a decidedly bare-bones look with steel wheels and little adornment, while higher trims add more personality and capability. The lineup also includes the Heritage trim with a throwback white grille, roof, and wheels, plus unique plaid seat upholstery, and the Heritage Limited trim is described as similarly charming but more capable.
- Powertrain: You get a 2.3-liter four-cylinder with 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, an optional 2.7-liter V6 with 330 hp and 415 lb-ft, or a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 in the Raptor with 418 hp and 440 lb-ft. All Broncos come with four-wheel drive and a two-speed transfer case.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, trailer-sway assist, and Trail Turn Assist. The Mid package is not available on the Base model and adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-keep assist, rear parking proximity sensors, and automatic high beams. The High package adds front parking sensors and a 360-degree camera system, while the Luxe package adds adaptive cruise control and evasive steering assist.
- Infotainment: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with Ford’s SYNC 4. Most Broncos come with an eight-inch touchscreen, and the available 12-inch display is the easier one to use.
- Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder is estimated at up to 20 mpg combined, but depending on options it can drop to 17 mpg. The 2.7-liter V6 is rated at 17-18 mpg, and the Raptor is estimated at 15 mpg.
Which 2023 Ford Bronco trim should I buy?
The 2023 Ford Bronco is offered in 9 trim levels: Base, Black Diamond, Heritage, Heritage Limited, and Raptor.
Here's the short version:
- Base: This is the most affordable way into the Bronco, but it is also the most stripped-down. It makes sense if you want the Bronco’s core capability and plan to add equipment carefully over time.
- Black Diamond: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it represents a good middle ground, and the available Sasquatch package can add meaningful off-road upgrades.
- Heritage: Choose this if you want the retro styling cues and a more distinctive look without jumping all the way to the top of the range.
- Heritage Limited: This is the more capable, more special-feeling Heritage choice if you want the nostalgic design with extra substance.
- Raptor: This is the extreme choice, with the most power and the most aggressive stance, but it is overkill for most buyers.
The Mid package is not available on the Base trim, so shoppers who want more driver-assistance features should plan accordingly.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Bronco?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,972 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.72% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 91.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $41,863.92, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Ford Bronco's resale value?
The current average of $41,852 sits slightly below last year's $45,852.
That price movement suggests the Bronco has cooled from a stronger position, which can create a better buying opportunity now but may also limit near-term upside for a future seller. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can help protect your value better over time.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.27/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Ford Bronco safe?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published only partial results of its Bronco crash tests, with the four-door receiving four-star ratings for frontal crash protection and three-star ratings for rollover protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the four-door Bronco its best score of “Good” in all crashworthiness tests except for head restraints and seats, where it received “Acceptable.”
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, trailer-sway assist, and Trail Turn Assist. The Mid package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-keep assist, rear parking proximity sensors, and automatic high beams, but it is not available on the Base model. Higher packages add front parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, and evasive steering assist.
The Bronco’s safety story is solid for an off-road-focused SUV, but its partial crash-test results and the lack of standard advanced driver assistance features mean you should not assume every used example is equally well equipped.
Should I buy a 2023 Ford Bronco or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.72% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.27/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It balances rugged capability with everyday versatility across nine distinct models.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $37,947, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $41,852 average.
- It offers broad appeal with strong off-road ability and better pavement manners.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $45,347, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $41,852 average.
- It adds a standard 12-inch Sync 4 infotainment system and a more modern cabin feel.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, inventory, and satisfaction, the 2023 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2022 can save you money while keeping the Bronco formula intact. If you want the newer infotainment setup and do not mind paying more, the 2024 is the upgrade path to consider.
