Prices have softened 10.05% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,293 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable selection to compare.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC60 a good car?

The 2023 Volvo XC60 is a qualified yes for you if you want a stylish, tech-forward luxury SUV with strong safety credentials and plug-in hybrid flexibility. It earns 3/5 from users and 8.00/10 from experts.

The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

The XC60’s appeal is rooted in its stylish design, impressive technology, and great safety ratings, while its plug-in hybrid setup gives you the option of electric-only commuting without giving up gasoline range for longer trips. The trade-offs are real, though: acceleration and braking can be abrupt, rear-seat legroom is tight, and value for the money is questionable.

With 36.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC60 reliable?

The 2023 Volvo XC60 builds on a long-running XC60 formula that has improved over time, and the plug-in hybrid version benefits from a mid-2022 powertrain update that made it more appealing. The expert evaluation also points to a powertrain that can deliver strong electric-only driving and a useful blend of performance and efficiency.

The performance notes describe the updated PHEV system as more powerful than before, with a rear motor that adds a torque-vectoring effect and helps the SUV feel fun to drive. The cost-effectiveness notes also frame the XC60 Recharge as a good way to test EV-style ownership before fully committing to a pure electric vehicle.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that this is a complex luxury plug-in hybrid, so you should expect ownership costs and system complexity to matter more than they would on a simpler SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volvo XC60?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a plug-in hybrid with more moving parts than a conventional SUV. Focus on how the powertrain transitions between electric and gasoline operation, whether the brakes feel consistent, and whether the cabin and rear seat meet your needs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes Core, Plus, Ultimate, and PHEV-only Polestar Engineered, with Bright or Dark exterior themes. The base setup is less richly equipped than the higher trims, while the Ultimate test vehicle showed how much more upscale the cabin can feel with features like the panoramic sunroof and crystal gear selector.
• Powertrain: The XC60 B5 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, the B6 adds turbocharged, supercharged, and mild-hybrid hardware, and the Recharge uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter gas engine plus a rear electric motor and battery pack. The PHEV setup is the one tied to the estimated 35 miles of electric driving range.
• Safety package: Pilot Assist is Volvo’s most advanced driver-assistance system, combining adaptive cruise control with lane-centering capability on the highway, and Oncoming Lane Mitigation can help avoid collisions with oncoming traffic. The Ultimate trim came with all available safety features.
• Infotainment: You get a 12-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 9-inch portrait-style touchscreen with Google Built-in, four years of complimentary access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play, plus Apple CarPlay and SiriusXM satellite radio. Wi-Fi access is also included.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert evaluation recorded 54.6 mpg over a 65-mile route, and the vehicle was also described as returning 19.7 mpg on a freeway-heavy trip while in Charge mode.

Which 2023 Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volvo XC60 is offered in 4 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultimate, and Polestar Engineered.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the entry point if you want the XC60’s style, safety, and tech without paying for the richest cabin upgrades. It makes sense if you value the model’s core strengths more than luxury extras.
• Plus: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of equipment and price. It should be the best-value choice for many shoppers because it sits above the base trim without pushing as far into expensive luxury territory.
• Ultimate: This is the one to buy if you want the most complete XC60 experience. The test vehicle showed how much richer the cabin can feel here, and this trim came with all available safety features.
• Polestar Engineered: Choose this only if you want the most performance-focused version in the lineup. The expert notes point to the standard Recharge as quick already, while suggesting this is the version for buyers who plan to drive more aggressively.

The Ultimate trim is the one tied to the full safety feature set.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volvo XC60?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,293 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.05% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 91.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $33,701, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volvo XC60's resale value?

The current average of $33,701 sits slightly below last year's $37,467.

That decline suggests the XC60 has softened in the used market, which can help you buy more confidently today. If you plan to sell later, you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim because the market has already moved down from last year’s level. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than higher-mileage or less-equipped versions.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC60 safe?

The 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge does not have a crash-test assessment listed here, but the XC60 B5 and B6 earn top marks across the board, including a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Pilot Assist is Volvo’s most advanced driver-assistance system, combining adaptive cruise control with lane-centering capability on the highway, and Oncoming Lane Mitigation can help prevent collisions with oncoming traffic or unsafe left turns across traffic. The Ultimate trim came with all available safety features, so lower trims may not match that full equipment set.

Should I buy a 2023 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.05% compared with last year.
• The mid-2022 powertrain update made the XC60 Recharge more appealing among luxury PHEVs.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $27,378, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $33,701 average.
• It brings Volvo’s signature style and solid engineering to the segment.

The bottom line: Choose the 2023 if you want the updated plug-in hybrid experience and are willing to pay more for it. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value path, especially if you can find a well-kept example with the equipment you want.
