The Toyota Tacoma got a makeover for 2001, including a new front fascia, taillights, and headlights. Toyota also added two new Tacomas to the lineup, the S Runner and the Double Cab. The 2001 Toyota Tacoma came in a wide variety of trims, which included the Regular Cab 4WD, Xtracab 4WD, Xtracab V6 4WD, Double Cab V6 4WD, Regular Cab 2WD, PreRunner Regular Cab 2WD, Xtracab 2WD, PreRunner Xtracab 2WD, S-Runner Xtracab V6 2WD, PreRunner, Double Cab 2WD, PreRunner Xtracab V6 2WD, and the PreRunner Double Cab V6 2WD .The new Double Cab models offered four doors instead of two, and extra room in the extended cab. The S Runner was the sporty model, offering sport-tuned suspension.
Drivers like the 2001 Toyota Tacoma because it is small and basic, but still suits their needs when something needs to be hauled or towed. Owners of the truck also say it performs well off-road and like that there are a lot of options to chose from. Some drivers say that the bed is too small and the storage compartments are inconveniently located.

I have over maintained my truck just to see how long it will last. Got 160,000 miles and never misses a beat. Looks and runs like I just drove it off the showroom floor - which I did back in 2001!

Rock solid, reliable, and decent gas mileage (with the 2.7L)! I've had this truck for a few years now and have taken it on some serious off roading with no real problems. If it's good enough for the Taliban it's good enough for my Minnesota excursions!

There isn't anything I didn't like about this truck except that it was bought before it was known that our family would grow. Now that it has we have to get something bigger. If it weren't for that, we'd be keeping it until it disintegrating.

Best truck I've ever owned ! I have always driven a 90' pickup before buying this truck because I didn't like the looks of the Tacomas when they first came out !! Glad I changed my mind. As long as you don't need to tow much , this is an excellent little truck an respectable as far as gas mileage goes !
